Gearing Up…

Hurricane Irma wasn’t all bad – I salvaged some great fence boards to use for my smaller art. This means plenty of new inventory for the upcoming Atomic Holiday Bazaar in December. Can’t hardly wait…

Work Made Simpler

One of the best gifts ever from my dad and stepmom! This chop saw made quick and easy work of cutting up salvaged fence boards for small art. It’s helping me get ready for a couple of upcoming events… FOUND Treasures for Living will be participating in The Junior League Holiday Gift Market in Tampa, Nov. 10-13 and Atomic Holiday Bazaar happens in Sarasota, December 10-11. I’ll also be taking some new work to FOUND in Dunedin soon!

Did Someone Say Paper?

FullSizeRender-13

I love paper. It almost doesn’t matter what kind. My mom has even made up a word for me – she says I am a “paperian.” I have indiscriminately collected writing paper, notebooks and blank journals that I just couldn’t stand to leave behind. But I especially love vintage paper – stamps, receipts, letters, postcards, tickets, maps, sheet music, playbills… It is absolutely fascinating to me. I love the color of old paper and the way the paper feels and the way the ink has faded in places. It ranks right up there with rust in its beauty. But I really love that there is a story behind these items. Each piece makes me wonder about who it belonged to and why it was saved and how it has survived in the world for so long and how far it has traveled to reach me. And when I can actually stand to part with a certain piece of this ephemera, I incorporate it into my art and send it back out into the world so it can continue its wondrous journey…

“Harbor Island”

Just delivered this custom piece which will be making its way to its new home in coastal Maine. The quote is by Henry David Thoreau – “Rise free from care before the dawn, and seek adventures.”

“Beer Cap Flowers” are available at FOUND Treasures for Living in Dunedin!! These new pieces are a revamp of a previous design. Created with a vintage paper background, rusty beer caps found and collected from streets and parking lots, vintage ruler pieces and postage stamps, and inspirational quotes, all on salvaged wood.

What You Seek

This new mixed media piece was just finished today! Created with vintage dictionary pages and various ephemera and found objects in a vintage drawer. It also includes one of my favorite quotes by Rumi, “What you seek is seeking you.”
